Name Above All Names

The Name Above All Names

"For this reason also, God highly exalted Him,

and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,

so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow,

of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

and that every tongue will confess that

Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. "

Philippians 2:9-11 (NASB)

"Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion,

and every name that is named, not only in this world,

but also in that which is to come:"

Ephesians 1:21 (KJV)

If you look closely at the Bible you will see that the entire world was spoken into existence with words. Words are very powerful tools used by God and given to us by Him.

Notice in Genesis 1:3 (NASB) "Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light." God called something "light" and it came into existence.

In Eph 1:21 (NASB) we are told that the name of Jesus is "far above...every name that is named, not only in this age but also the one to come." That means that everything that has a name, whether it be a person, an animal, a thing, a sickness or disease, whatever it is, if it has a name that it can be called by it is subject to the will of Jesus.

There is POWER in the name of Jesus. Look at John 17:11-12 (NIV) "...Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name-the name you gave me-so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me." God gave Jesus His name and with it the power to keep us safe.

What kind of power is in the name? Look at the following verses:

"And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

Mark 16:17-18 (NIV)

"In that day you will not question Me about anything Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. "Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.""

John 16:23-24 (NASB)

Jesus says:

- In MY name they will drive out demons!

- In MY name they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well!

- In MY name you can ask for anything and you will receive it from the Father!

The Word of God declares, "I, the Lord, do not change" (Malachi 3:6 NASB) and, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever" (Hebrews 13:8 NASB).

Jesus told us we would do the things He did and even greater (John 14:12). We must be like Jesus - preaching the same Gospel of hope and deliverance to a lost and dying world and showing His mercy and grace in tangible ways. We must be His body in this present world.
